Talking Piano - Nov. 29, 2009

Did you know a piano can talk?

...well sort of. Peter Albinger, inventor and composer, has created a device that attempts to simulate human voice with tones generated acoustically on a piano. Using a process called fourier analysis, he has analyzed frequencies of a child's voice. The results are processed with a computer that is connected to a mechanical device that can actuate each key on the piano's keyboard. Impossible to really describe, so take a look at the video linked below; it's actually quite mesmerising! This is a very interesting project that explores the boundaries between music and the human voice.
